Hope for Hope, Thanks to the Emergency Food and Shelter Program
Kingsport, TN (July 30, 2020) – Hope Helps TN (HHTN) is pleased to announce it has received a $6,000 grant from the Local Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Board. The grant money stems from part of the CARES Funds awarded to Hawkins County to support local nonprofit organizations that offer emergency food and shelter services to the community.
HHTN is a no-cost food pantry and clothing closet that is composed of a staff of volunteers. Like many others, HHTN faces the strain associated with increased food prices due to COVID-19. These funds will allow the organization to obtain needed items for their food pantry and continue providing a high level of care and assistance to those who have needs in the community.
The local EFSP board selected nonprofit organizations in the community to receive the funds through an application and review process.
The CARES Funds, which stand for Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, are supplied from the Department of Homeland Security /Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The national board includes a chairperson of the DHS/Federal Emergency Management Agency and representatives of the American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; the Jewish Federations of North America; the Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide.
